The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

~ Release by Genesis (see all versions of this release, 34 available)

Annotation

This release has an embossed PRS Hannover stamp on back cover (since 1978). Runout codes, cover and label print are the same as on previous releases, except two different label designs on record 1 and 2 (GEMA printed beneath or underneath 'ST 33'), not known to be mixed earlier.
Repress, probably released in 1978, unlikely very much later.

Side Numbering, Track Titles and Durations

Side numbering is inconsistent - on labels "Record 1/2" with "Side 1" and "Side 2" on each, while on cover and inserts it's side 1 to 4. (side 1 to 4/track n is used afterwards)
Track titles are inconsistent too: (tracklist follows the most commonly used version)

  • 1/1 "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" (back and inner sleeve) - "Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" (label, also album title on labels)
  • 2/4 "Carpet Crawl" (back and label) - "The Carpet Crawlers" (inner sleeve)
  • 4/1(1) "Arrival" (back) - "The Arrival" (label and inner sleeve)
  • 4/1(2) "A Visit to the Doktor" (back and inner sleeve) - "A Visit to the Doctor" (label)
  • 4/1(3) "Raven" (back and label) - "The Raven" (inner sleeve)

Printed track lengths which defer by more than ± 10 seconds from actual lengths¹ were corrected:

  • 1/2: 4:55 → 2:44
  • 1/4: none → 2:13
  • 2/3: 2:25 → 3:42
  • 2/4: 4:55 → 5:16
  • 4/1: 8:00 → 8:13
  • 4/2: 3:20 → 2:04
  • 4/6: 6:40 → 4:18

¹) the measurement of durations is difficult to carry out due to overlapping or connected pieces, an uncertainty of a few seconds cannot be avoided
